Ivy Egger begins her mixed media mosaics with a simple acrylic or gouache painting, providing a foundation. Working with mosaics reminds her that she can take broken pieces of glass and make them into something new and beautiful, much like living with a disability. She also creates dreamy landscape paintings to create an escape from her daily challenges. She has a rare liver disorder called glycogen storage disease, type 1A. Because of this, she must to monitor her blood sugars to prevent hypoglycemia. Art provides her an outlet to help her forget about her physical challenges.
