Lynette Basford is a native of Orange County, California. She was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa in 1975 at the age of 11 years; at age 59, she still has some vision remaining. She grew up near the Braille Institute in Anaheim, California, and became a student there. The Braille Institute teaches important life skills for the blind and visually impaired. It was at the Braille Institute that she learned how to make mosaics, eventually having a piece featured at the Thomas Kinkade Gallery in San Francisco.
