Denita Benyshek is a disabled artist with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome; she is also a caretaker of her disabled son. She began her artistic endeavors with small-scale paintings in her garden as a moment of respite. In 2022, Botanica Gardens selected Denita as the artist in residence. She has written a poem, Into the Garden, set with the garden paintings in a book, and was inspired to create a series of garden mandalas. These are based on detailed photographs of the garden paintings. The symmetrical artworks convey the spiritual beauty and life-force power of the garden and cosmos, to give the viewer a moment of awe and peace.
